THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI has revived the idea of communist reunification in India. CPI, which underlined that the BJP is a fascist regime, also assessed that the Congress has lost the organizational capacity to lead a broad secular alliance against the BJP.
The CPI, which had raised the goal of a broad secular alliance including the Congress at the 23rd Party Congress held in Kollam, now does not have any hope in the Congress leadership. It assessed that Rahul Gandhi contesting in Wayanad shows the political bankruptcy of Congress.
The draft political resolution adopted ahead of the 24th CPI Party Congress to be held in Vijayawada from October 14 to 18 states that principled communist unification is the need of the hour.
Indian communist parties including CPM and CPI should strengthen their united struggle. The CPI's assessment that the Congress leadership has become incapable of taking a broad view of the country or leading the country is considered a marked change from its previous stance. Instead of leading the fight against the BJP in the Hindi heartland of Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi came to Wayanad and ran against the left. His opponents saw it as a kind of elopement. Rahul forgot that the Left is the main link in the broad secular coalition. The CPI also pointed out that the lack of foresight of the Congress leadership was reflected here.
No merger, say leaders
CPI leaders pointed out that the aim of communist reunification should not be interpreted as a merger of CPM and CPI. The long-term goal of the party is to gradually become a single party by the communist parties fighting together for various goals and gaining more power.
Need cooperation:CPM
CPM politburo member MA Baby responded to the CPI goal by saying that while standing as two parties, they should work together as much as possible.
