WASHINGTON: The US has killed Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in a drone strike in Afghanistan, confirmed President Joe Biden. “Zawahiri had carved a trail of murder and violence against American citizens. Now justice has been delivered and this terrorist leader is no more”, said Biden. The attack took place on Sunday morning.

According to officials, the counter-terrorism operation was carried out by the CIA in the Afghan capital of Kabul. Zawahiri was on the balcony of a safe house when the drone fired two missiles at him.

During the attack, other family members were present in the house. However, they were reportedly unharmed. Zawahiri had taken up the leadership of the Al-Qaeda in 2011, following the killing of Osama bin Laden by the US forces.
