KANNUR: The 'naked thief', who posed a headache to the police and locals for two months, has been arrested. The arrested has been identified as Tamil Nadu Nilgiri native Abdul Kabir (56). He was unaware that video footage of him stealing from houses naked at night had circulated on social media.

Kabeer aka Water Meter Kabeer was arrested by the Kannur Town Police when he reached the Kannur KSRTC bus stand from Kozhikode for a theft. Kabeer had committed many thefts in Kannur town, Thazhe Chovva and Mele Chovva areas.

The police identified the thief by checking around a thousand CCTV footage with the help of residents associations in the city. Following this, the bus stands were kept under surveillance.

The police said that Kabeer used to go for thefts naked in order to avoid getting caught and to scare the people. The police identified the naked thief when a shopkeeper showed the CCTV footage at the Kannur police station.
