KOZHIKODE: A woman succumbed to rabies infection despite taking vaccine. The 53-year-old woman has been identified as Chandrika (53) of Koothali. She was bitten by a stray dog near her house on July 21. Eight other people were also bitten that day.

The preliminary conclusion is that the death was caused by rabies. She was bitten on her face. She was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital after she suffered physical discomfort ten days ago. She died on last Saturday while undergoing treatment.

The health department said further test results are to be obtained to confirm whether Chandrika was infected with rabies. She leaves behind her husband Kumaran and children Jayesh, Jithesh., Jithoy and daughters-in-law Jiji, Nithya and Indu.
