THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP State President K Surendran said that the government's arrogance to pass the Lokayukta amendment bill no matter whoever objects is a challenge to the people. He accused that the bill was introduced in the assembly at government's own interest. 'It is unconstitutional for the Executive or the Legislature to appoint an appellate system to override a judicial decision.
The government will once face backlash from people for their arrogance', said the President. Surendran also alleged that the suggestion that what CPI has to say can be submitted as official amendment in the Select Committee is tantamount to controlling them. 'When Pinarayi Vijayan rolls his eyes, Kanam's knees tremble. That is what was seen in case of Lokayukta bill. If CPI has self-respect, then they should remain firm in their stance. The problem is whether CPI has that much courage.
But the UDF is trying to mislead people by pretending that they are opposing the bill. CPM and Congress compete with each other in terms of corruption. The UDF's fake play will once be revealed.', he said.
When Lokayukta Amendment Bill is passed, the Lokayukta system will become irrelevant. Section 14, which demands corrupt public servants to resign, is getting changed by the amendment. Surendran demanded that the government should explain why they are doing this and to save whom.
