THRISSUR: The soldiers and health workers who arrive at 'Cafe Makani' can eat whatever they like and there is no need to pay bill. It is a system introduced by the restaurant owner Abdul Salam introduced as a tribute to their service. They are also taken to a special room the restaurant and are felicitated with a shawl and a gift. The restaurant is located at Vettikattiri near Cheruthuruthi. A leaflet requesting to pray for the soldiers will be given to those who visit the shop. The aim is to develop patriotism and love for soldiers.

The same consideration is given to Fire Force and police officers also. Independence Day program is also held to honor the soldiers. Soldiers who find out about this sometimes give gifts in return. A uniform donated by such a veteran is displayed there. The free service is provided on ID card basis.

The lockdown became a guidelight to him. The free tea and water supply that started during the lockdown for helping ambulance drivers ans health workers has changed in this way. In the beginning, the shop was open till 10 pm. But now it is working both day and night. 14 employees are working here on shifts. Abdul Salam says 1000 soldiers have been felicitated in this way so far. He uses funds from business and contributions for this. His brother Mohammed Ali worked in the navy which paved way for his respect to soldiers.
