THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A law is coming to introduce licenses to sell poultry feed and cattle feed. Minister J. Chinchu Rani introduced the bill to replace the lapsed ordinance in the Assembly yesterday. The bill was then referred to a fifteen-member select committee chaired by the minister.

Matthew T Thomas pointed out that the ordinance got lapsed on August 8 and it would take months for it to come back to the House from the Select Committee and it would be illegal to file a case during that period. The assembly accepted this.

Milma provides cattle feed and Kerala Feeds provides chicken feed in Kerala. With the increase in cultivation, cheaper fodder is coming from other states. The law comes in the face of growing ill health and the sale of fake products. The ordinance introduced last year was renewed four times. The bill was introduced in the House yesterday after the governor refused to renew the ordinance this month.

Minister Chinchu Rani said in the House that the bill is being introduced to ensure the quality of cattle fodder and poultry fodder, control the price and prevent the sale and adulteration of fake products.

The use of saw dust, animal waste, urea, ammonia, marble dust, dolomite, ferric oxide, capric oxide, manganese dioxide and rock phosphate in cattle and poultry feed will be banned. A license will be introduced to manufacture and sell poultry feed and fodder. The term is three years. The license will be revoked if fake products are sold. Laboratories will be empanelled for testing.
