THRISSUR: Crucial information has surfaced in connection with the incident in which a mother was poisoned to death by her daughter. The locals had initially believed that Rugmini (58), wife of Chandran of Kezhoor Chooziyattil House, had died due to illness. The locals also had a good opinion of Rugmini's daughter Indulekha.

The relatives and locals came to know about the brutal murder only after the police came to arrest the woman. Indulekha, an expatriate's wife and mother of two children, has a financial liability of Rs 8 lakhs. She got indebted after she pledged her gold for money.

The reason for pledging the gold is not yet clear. According to the police, Indulekha’s husband is also unaware of her financial liability. Her husband was planning to return back home on August 18. The woman would have attempted to clear all her liabilities by getting the property after killing her parents, suspect the police.

Indulekha poisoned Rugmini on August 17. After the latter began to vomit, she was taken to the hospital. The locals were told that she was suffering from jaundice. In a detailed examination by the doctors, traces of poison were found in Rugmini’s body. Following which, they informed the police. Initially, the accused was not ready to reveal anything during the interrogation.

On checking Indulekha’s phone, it was found that she had googled about rat poison. This turned to be crucial for the case. The accused confessed to the crime when the police pointed this out. The police have also found the cup in which Rugmini was given rat poison. Evidence has been collected from the shop, from where the poison was bought.

The woman had also tried to murder her father Chandran. Although an insecticide was mixed to his tea, he did not drink it because of the change in taste. Later, Chandran told police that he had found an empty packet of insecticide in the house.
