KANNUR: For Jijeesh, an IT professional, cow rearing is not just a way of life but life itself. He started a farm in Chooral in Payyannur six years ago with three cows and now has 200 cows including calves. He is able to give more than 250 litres of milk to the societies. KV Jijeesh, an employee of Thiruvananthapuram Technopark, takes care of the cows when he is not at home through the app 'My Cattle Manager'. The number of cows, feeding, health status and calving date are all known through the app. His brother KV Prajeesh is the main helper in the farm with 12 employees.
Besides milk production, Jijeesh emphasizes on producing cows of the best breed. At present, the farm has breeds like Jersey, HF cross, Rathi breed, Kasaragod Dwarf, Vechoor, Haryana Cow, Gheer and Sahiwal. Jijeesh is preparing to produce the best breed of cows in India at his farm. Maize and grass are the main food of cows.
Farm tourism
Jijeesh, who grew up watching cow breeding and farming, has a dream not only of a high-tech farm. The five-acre farm near Ariyil Falls is planned to be integrated with tourism.
