NEW DELHI: A crucial breakthrough in the investigation of the mysterious death of actress and BJP leader Sonali Phogat. CCTV footage of the party at a hotel in Goa shortly before the death has come out. In the video, Sonali Phogat is seen holding onto her assistant as she is unable to walk.
Sudhir Sangwan, one among the two accused in the case, is seen holding Sonali. She dies within five hours after this. The Goa Police said they have also obtained CCTV footage of Sudhir Sangwan and co-accused Sukhwinder Singh forcibly giving Sonali the drink that was spiked. During interrogation, they had admitted to the police that they had forced Sonali to take drugs.
The deceased Sonali Phogat's brother Rinku Dhaka has filed a complaint with the police alleging that his sister was raped and murdered by her personal assistant Sudhir Sangwan and his friend. It was initially assumed that Sonali, who was a BJP leader, died of a heart attack.
In the complaint, Rinku stated that Sonali had spoken to her mother, sister and brother-in-law a few hours before her demise on August 23. He claimed that during the conversation Sonali had complained against her staff and alleged that her PA raped her after adding drugs to her meals.
"She (Sonali) said Sangwan had given her food laced with some intoxicant, raped her and made a video and was threatening to make the video viral on social media," the complaint reads.
In the post-mortem report, many injuries were found on Sonali's body. The autopsy was completed under the supervision of a two-member forensic expert team.
