NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of 21 fake universities in Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, UP, Odisha, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh. The authorities also clarified that these fake universities are not empowered to grant degrees.

This includes St. John's University-Kishanattam (Kerala), All India Institute of Public Health Science (Delhi), Commercial University (Delhi), United Nations University (Delhi), Vocational University (Delhi), ADR Centric Juridical University (Delhi), Indian Institute of Science and Engineering (Delhi), Viswakarma Open University for Self-Employment (Delhi), Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya (Delhi).

The number of fake universities in other states is as follows: Karnataka-1, Maharashtra-1, West Bengal-2, Uttar Pradesh-4, Odisha-2, Puducherry-1, Andhra Pradesh-1. The UGC had earlier published a blacklist stating that the number of fake universities in the country is increasing and students and parents preparing for graduation should be cautious.
