NEW DELHI: In Jharkhand, the ruling party MLAs have been shifted to a resort amidst speculation about the possible disqualification of Chief Minister Hemant Soren as an MLA in the state assembly for allegedly violating poll norms by extending himself a mining lease. Soren will have to resign if the Governor upholds the Election Commission's recommendation to revoke the membership.

The information is that the MLAs of Soren's party JMM and its ally Congress have been shifted to a resort. A few MLAs came with luggage to the emergency meeting held at Hemant Soren's residence today.

It is indicated that the Election Commission has found that Soren misused the position of Chief Minister and made a mining license in his and his brother's name and violated the provision of the Representation of the People Act that the representatives of the people should not hold other positions that lead to financial gain (Office of Profit).

The names of his wife Kalpana Soren and brother Shibu Soren are being heard as successors. Soren hopes to be able to contest the elections after six months. He had accused political opponents of abusing constitutional mechanisms.

There is already a rebel threat on the administration front amid the looming action against the Chief Minister. The decision of the ruling party is to keep the majority even though there aren't any threats of losing it. The support of 41 legislators is needed for an absolute majority in the 81-member house.

The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance leadership says that the MLAs are being shifted to safety to prevent defections. A Congress leader has clarified that three luxury buses have reached Ranchi to transport the MLAs and they will have escort vehicles.
