Local Self Governments Minister and CPM Central Committee member MV Govindan took charge as the new state secretary of CPM at a completely unexpected time. CPM would not have had to consider another replacement for Kodiyeri Balakrishnan for the next two and a half years if he was in good health. Like Kodiyeri, MV Govindan is a leader who smiles when he sees the people. This is a matter of great comfort even to non-party members. Although they both have hearty smiles, their political styles are different. MV Govindan is not a leader who is willing to deviate from the party's declared philosophical base even as he believes in approaching things practically. All this time, MV Govindan has followed the principle that the party's health declines when it deviates from the party's ideals. While holding various organizational and constitutional positions, MV Govindan has never done anything that did not meet the moral standards that people expect from a communist. He is becoming the party secretary only after earning the reputation of a local self-government minister who stands by the people's side. Any party in which people are lining up will have its own problems. Apart from such issues, there is no such thing as sectarianism in the CPM nowadays. He responded that the post of state secretary is not a big challenge after understanding that. At the same time, many are raising an allegation that the second Pinarayi government is not living up to the expectations of the people. The state secretary must act as a pointer to remedy the shortcomings of the Cabinet. It is a great challenge for Govindan in the current situation. He also has a challenge of increasing the party's number of MPs in Kerala in the 2024 parliamentary elections before him.

The hurriedly held CPM leadership meetings named Govindan as the party's state secretary unanimously. Govindan is a native of Morazha in Kannur and is a leader who has risen in the party step by step through struggles. Hence, as the party state secretary, MV Govindan will be continuing to follow his working method of prioritizing the problems of the poor. He has assumed the new charge at a time when the atmosphere of conflict is emerging due to various incidents. There will be no lack of statements and actions from him to create an atmosphere of peaceful political activity. Undoubtedly, it can be expected that the party will go ahead with more strength under the leadership of the MV Govindan. That is what the party also expects from MV Govindan.
