THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Although amendments have been made in the Lokayukta bill, there is still a provision in the law for the Governor to intervene if the Lokayukta requests.

Section 12(5) of the Constitution, which was earlier passed by the Legislative Assembly, remains unchanged. Accordingly, if the action report submitted by the concerned authority on the order issued is not satisfactory, then the Lokayukta and the Upa-Lokayukta may approach the Governor seeking appropriate action. This should be reported to the Governor as a special report.

Although the bill has been amended after creating much controversy, this provison remained unnoticed. As a result, the Governor still has a say in the passing of the bill.
