THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The drug mafia, which is targetting schools in the state, is making children addicted to drugs and using them for criminal activities. The mafia is also using children to smuggle and sell drugs.
According to teachers, several children sell drugs to their classmates. They also said that in a class of 60, at least ten children are drug addicts. The situation is even worse in colleges.
LSD drug is becoming more prevalent in schools. Those who are selling this drug are offering 10 hours of intoxication for 100 rupees. These drugs are Afghan and African-made. Both boys and girls are addicted to LSD. Despite the law prohibiting the sale of intoxicants on school premises, the drug trade is rampant around educational institutions. Police and Excise wake up only when drug-addicted children indulge in crimes.
Problems caused by synthetic intoxication
Heart disease, memory loss, depression, anxiety, derangement of consciousness, and loss of vision. Once used, addicted for life.
After Amritsar and Mumbai, Kochi is the biggest drug market in the country. Thiruvananthapuram is witnessing sales of 100 crores per month. These drugs are flowing to the state from Bengaluru. Cannabis, hashish, ephedrine, methtrax, cocaine, and charas are all readily available. 105 children addicted to drugs have been brought back to life through drug-free treatment by City Police.
Non-bailable case
A case can be filed under non-bailable sections of the Juvenile Justice Act against those who supply drugs to students. Assets of the accused in drug cases can be confiscated. Children will be charged only if it is a serious crime.
