THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet meeting on Wednesday gave permission to withdraw the bill passed by the assembly to entrust the appointments made to the Waqf Board to the Public Service Commission (PSC). A bill to repeal the law will be introduced in the Assembly tomorrow. The government's action comes in the wake of strong protests by Muslim organizations. The bill will be presented as a non-agenda item.
A new system is under consideration for the Waqf Board recruitments. The government will hold discussions with leaders of LDF allies before introducing the bill.
Muslim organizations, including Samastha, had protested against the state government's decision to hand over recruitment to the Waqf Board to the PSC Following this, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a meeting with Muslim organizations. The CM later informed the assembly that the government will withdraw the law.
