digital-rape

NEW DELHI: A 75-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment under the POCSO Act and Section 375 of the IPC for 'digitally raping' a three-year-old girl. The incident took place in Salarpur village which comes within the limits of the Noida police station.

The Surajpur District Sessions Court convicted Akbar Alam, a native of Malda, on the complaint of the girl's father. The girl's father had alleged that Akbar Alam had subjected his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter to digital rape.

In his complaint, the girl's father alleged that the girl was playing outside when Akbar Alam lured her into his room using candies and went on to sexually abuse her. The girl returned home crying and told her mother what the accused had done to her. The police registered the FIR against Alam on January 21, 2019, based on the statement of the girl's parents.

District Sessions Judge Anil Kumar sentenced Alam to life imprisonment on August 30 based on circumstantial evidence, a medical report and eight other testimonies. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Alam.

Many such similar incidents have been reported in recent times. The police had recently arrested a 50-year-old man for digitally raping a seven-month-old baby.
