KOCHI: If vehicles are illegally modified, then the liability lies with the owner and not with the shop owner who sells the goods, said the high court. Justice Amit Rawal stated this while hearing a plea filed by three persons, including Abdul Sattar, a native of Karunagapally, who runs a company that sells vehicle accessories and sun film.
The petitioners had approached the court, fearing that the registration of the establishments would be canceled in the wake of receiving a notice from the Alappuzha RT office, pointing out that the selling of accessories, including sun films, are in violation of the law prohibiting illegal vehicle modification. The single bench said that the notice from the RT office was issued without any authority and stayed further actions stated in the notice. The plea will be heard again on November 15.
