THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has given a warning to the DGP for buying two cars for the Pink Police in Kochi by accepting Rs 17.56 lakh from the Corporate Social Responsibility Fund (CSR Fund) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation without the knowledge of the government. The cars were bought when Lokanath Behera was DGP. However, the government has warned DGP Anil Kant not to repeat this in future.
Considering the application of DGP, Home Department Under Secretary G Ajikumar issued an order validating the car purchase transaction with a strict stipulation that police should not accept CSR funds or enter into contracts with persons or institutions outside the administration's control without prior permission. A copy of the order has been forwarded to the Principal Accountant General and the Finance Department.
The DGP's request and the government's warning came when the Accountant General pointed out the illegal purchase. The DGP informed the government that the cars were bought as work was getting hampered as two pink police vehicles in Kochi City required constant repair work.
