NEW DELHI: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that rear seat occupants not wearing a seat belt will be penalised. Although seat belts are mandatory, no one wears them. The Minister said that the fine is being imposed with the aim of creating awareness.
Fines will be imposed with the help of cameras installed on the roads. The minimum fine will be Rs.1000. The goal is to reduce road accident deaths by 50 percent by 2024.
