THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that isolated places in the state are likely to receive heavy rain with thunder and lightning till September 11. The State Disaster Management Authority has directed that people should take precautions from the time dark clouds appear in the sky and they should not refrain from taking such precautions as lightning is not visible.
People should avoid standing in open areas if they see signs of lightning. Windows and doors should be closed. The electrical connection of household appliances should be disconnected. They should avoid proximity to electrical equipment. It is dangerous to sit on the terrace, in high places or on tree branches during thunderstorms. People have also been warned not to fly kites.
Children should not be allowed to play in open spaces and terraces if the weather is cloudy. There will be no electric current in the body of a person struck by lightning. The person who gets struck by lightning should get medical aid immediately.
