stray-dogs

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court directed to find a solution to the stray dog menace. The court asked all parties in the case including the state government to submit directions for resolving the issue. The Supreme Court stated that the matter will have to be heard in detail and announced that an interim order will be issued on September 28. The court has also directed Justice Sirijagan to submit a status report to the commission before this.

Advocate V K Biju informed the court about the situation where people die despite taking rabies vaccine. Meantime, the animal lovers' lawyer also stated during the hearing that the killing of stray dogs cannot be accepted for this reason.

Advocate V Giri and standing counsel C K Shashi requested the court to allow action against stray dogs in accordance with the state rules on behalf of the state government. The case was considered by Justice Sanjeev Khanna and J K Maheshwari. Justice Sanjeev Khanna opined that he too likes and keeps dogs but needs an immediate solution to the problems in the state.

The court asked whether dogs confirmed with rabies and attacking be killed as per the central rules. The government lawyers argued that the situation in the state is equivalent to a state of emergency and the Supreme Court should take immediate action. The court observed that those who are advocating to take care of stray dogs can do so, but they should take full responsibility for the dog. The court asked that facilities should be provided to house problematic dogs and others separately.
