THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite getting all central approvals, KFON (Kerala Fiber Optical Network) free internet project, which was announced to start on June 30, will be delayed by another month due to the delay in some state-level processes. The government is planning to start the dream project with the steps that have been completed so far.
In order to provide free internet service to needy families under the scheme, the government has instructed local bodies to provide the list of eligible beneficiaries before September 20th. Only after getting this list, the tender for connection to these homes can be invited and the contracts be awarded. These measures should also be completed to issue an order to transfer Rs 2.08 crore to the service providers towards the cost of providing internet services. It also requires permission to rent the fibre optic system to internet service companies.
Once all this is completed, KFON can be launched in 26,000 government offices and 14,000 homes.
