THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A circular was read even today in the churches coming under the Latin Archdiocese as part of toughening stand on the Vizhinjam strike. Various organizations and people should be involved in the mass strike starting on September 14. The circular said that despite several discussions, no assurance is being received from the authorities. The circular is being read for the third consecutive Sunday. The new decision of the Archdiocese comes as the strike enters its 27th day.
The Latin Archdiocese is all set to intensify the strike. The Archbishop's circular was read during mass today. As part of the decision to stage a state-wide strike, a vehicle jatha had started from Moolampally on Wednesday. This will reach Thiruvananthapuram today. The circular directed all parishioners to participate in the jatha.
Meantime, the Latin Archdiocese has started efforts to bring Rahul Gandhi, who reached Kerala as part of Bharat Jodo Yatra, to Vizhinjam. The leaders of the striking panel led by Father Eugene Perera met K Sudhakaran and V D Satheesan for this. However, the Congress is of the stand that it is not appropriate to bring Rahul Gandhi to the protest venue.
