ALAPPUZHA: In a dramatic incident, a woman has admitted that the newborn baby, who was found abandoned in bushes in Thumboli in Alappuzha, is hers. The police said that they will record the statement of the woman in detail. The DNA test of the woman and the baby will be conducted. The woman and the child are undergoing treatment at Alappuzha Beach Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Child Welfare Committee will take a decision on handing over the baby to the woman. The police will also investigate if anyone else helped her to abandon the baby.

The baby girl was found abandoned near Thumboli Vikasanam Junction on Friday morning. It was some migrant labourers who found the baby. Following this, the locals intervened and took the baby to a nearby Women and Child Hospital. In the investigation conducted after this, the young woman, who was suspected to have abandoned the baby, was found. However, the woman initially said that it was not her child. The woman also refused to breastfeed the child. Doctors confirmed yesterday that the woman had given birth recently.
