KOTTUCHERRY: A 14-year-old girl died after consuming rat poison mistaking it for chocolate cake. The deceased has been identified as R Saloth Nithikshina, a resident of Kottucherry in Karaikal town. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon.

After being diagnosed with dystonia, a disease that affects body movement, Saloth stopped studying two years ago and stayed at home. She was feeling weak and vomiting on Sunday afternoon, when asked by her mother, the girl said that she had eaten a chocolate cake placed by the window. On hearing this, Stella, shocked, took her daughter to the Kottucherry government hospital. From there, Saloth was taken to Karaikkal Government Hospital.

Saloth, who was undergoing treatment in the ICU, later died. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
