MALAPPURAM: A faction of the Muslim League on Wednesday made a move against KM Shaji during the meeting of the Muslim League State Working Committee. They alleged that many of Shaji's remarks are insulting the party and the leaders and put the party on the defensive. The leaders who accused Shaji of insulting eminent persons, including MA Yusuff Ali, urged the leadership not to let Shaji loose.

KM Shaji had criticized PK Kunjalikutty's soft approach towards the LDF government in the working committee held in Kochi in July. The move against Shaji in the working committee in Malappuram yesterday is seen as a response to this.

Shaji did not attend the meeting as he was abroad. Taking this as an opportunity, the PK Kunhalikutty faction turned against Shaji. The meeting decided to form a five-member disciplinary committee in the party and take strict action against violators. It is believed that the formation of the committee is aimed at those leaders who have been making public statements recently. State General Secretary PMA Salam told the media that there is no need for the League to leave the front and that everyone is united in this regard.
