THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that temporary employees sacked by KSRTC and drivers from PSC unadvised list will be employed in 'SWIFT' on a daily wage basis. The CM stated this in an article published in 'Chinta' weekly. 6,337 daily wage employees were sacked in several stages in 2020.

Permanent mechanical department employees will be redeployed and former temporary employees will be posted on a daily wage basis in Yatra Fuels and Swift Day Maintenance. The front office desk will also be staffed by the ministerial employees by combining reservations and concessions. Appointments will also be made in the ticket-cash section as per requirement.

The single duty system will be introduced on ordinary and fast passenger services from October 1st. The CM also explained in the article that if the reforms are implemented, the KSRTC can generate additional revenue of Rs 20 to 25 crores every month by operating 600 to 800 more buses.

Management criticised
The KSRTC is unable to even pay the salaries correctly despite receiving government assistance of Rs 2,076 crore in 2021-22. This is due to the mismanagement of the KSRTC. The article also pointed out that the staff and officials need to take a strict stand for smooth functioning.
