KOCHI: The high court has sought government's explanation on the contempt plea filed by the Adani Group in connection with the construction of the Vizhinjam port. The Adani Group filed the plea challenging the non-implementation of the order to provide police security for the construction of the port. As the government sought time to reply, the plea has been adjourned to Tuesday.
The single bench had earlier ordered that adequate security should be provided for the construction of the port and the protesters had no right to obstruct the project. It was also instructed to call the central forces if the government is unable to provide police security. The high court issued an interim order on the pleas filed by the Adani Group and the contracting company Howe Engineering seeking security for the construction of the Vizhinjam port.
The court had also directed that the public protest should go on peacefully without causing obstructions to the construction. However, the Adani Group filed the plea stating that this order is not being implemented. The plea demanded to take contempt of court action against the government and officials who did not implement the court order The company in its plea contended that the police did not intervene although the protesters obstructed the work of the construction.
