The director of entrepreneurship of the university informed that the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has formulated various plans to work in conjunction with the stray dog control and rabies eradication measures implemented by the Animal Welfare Department and the Local Self-Government Department.
As part of this, the University has decided to devise and implement the necessary measures to provide expert training to the veterinary doctors, para-veterinary officers, volunteer soldiers and dog catchers working in the related field of stray dog control with the cooperation of the local self-government bodies and the state animal protection department.
A decision has also been taken to involve students on a block basis in the areas where the various campuses of the university are located and to participate in the activities of the animal welfare department including awareness and vaccination. The University will hand over the scientific and technical information, model design for the ABC centres and related shelters to be set up by the panchayats to the local self-government bodies/related departments as required.
The university has also decided to organize awareness activities for school students at the locations of various institutes of the university. It also plans to create scientific awareness among the general public against misleading, alarming and unscientific campaigns related to street dog control and rabies eradication.
Awareness on stray dog control, rabies prevention, scientific management, scientific waste management and zoonotic disease control will also be organized using the potential of social media and other media.
