AHMEDABAD: Despite getting married eight years ago, a woman only recently realized that her husband was a person who became a man through gender reassignment surgery. The 40-year-old woman from Vadodara, Gujarat, learned about this when her husband revealed everything under pressure. Following the woman's complaint, the police registered a case against her husband Viraj Vardhan, a native of Delhi.

The woman married Viraj after the death of her first husband. She has a daughter from his first relationship. The woman met Viraj through a matrimonial site and married him with the consent of her family. After marriage, the couple went to Kashmir for honeymoon. The woman alleges that he did not try to have sex even once. When she insisted, he kept making excuses. When insisted again, Viraj said he had an accident in Russia and is therefore unable to do sexual intercourse. When Viraj told her that the problem would be solved by performing a surgery at a hospital in Kolkata, the woman believed. The couple went to Kolkata for surgery.

The woman says that even after the surgery, Viraj was unable to have natural sex. Instead, he was interested in unnatural sex. At first she agreed to this, but later she objected. It was then that he revealed that he had undergone gender reassignment surgery and was a female. He threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about this. Then the woman lodged a complaint with the police.
