THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government is planning to come up with an action plan against increasing drug abuse in the state. Speaking at a press conference, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the project will be launched on Gandhi Jayanti day, October 2. The Chief Minister said that an anti-drug chain will be organized in educational institutions on November 1.
"The increasing use of drugs in the state is being taken seriously by the government. We should be able to mount a statewide defence against it. Drug abuse not only affects individuals but also their families and society at large. Moreover, the criminal activities that follow it disturb the peace of the land. It mainly focuses on the youth. This leads them on the wrong path," the CM said.
"The use of more lethal drugs is becoming widespread. The government is taking strong action against drug abuse. We are getting results for this. We are able to detect drug trafficking. We have also been successful in disrupting supply chains. However, we are far from completely achieving the goal. The future of the country lies in the hands of the younger generation. We must be able to mount a robust and foolproof defence against the drug menace," he added.
