THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Major irregularities have been found in the inspection conducted by Vigilance during Operation Saral Rasta 3. The operation was organised with an aim to find out the irregularities in the construction of 150 roads by local bodies. It include faults like not applying tar to the required thickness and not doing repairs on time. The samples have been collected from all roads. The Vigilance informed that they will check the documents and find more irregularities. The inspection which started at 10:30 am on Friday morning was completed by evening.

The Vigilance informed that such inspections are being conducted to detect corruption and mismanagement of some officials in Engineering division of Local Self Government department and Public Works Department regarding construction of roads. Several complaints were raised that many newly constructed and repaired roads in the state were crumbling within months of completion. In the first phase of the raid conducted earlier, roads of Public works department were inspected. All vigilance units participated in the inspection led by IG Venkatesh and Intelligence Superintendent E S Bijimon as per the orders of chief Manoj Abraham.

Meanwhile, Minister Mohammed Riyas said that the construction technology of the roads must change in order to overcome the heavy rain in the state.
