BHOPAL: The Bishnoi community had on the other day voiced their protest against feeding chital (deer) to the cheetahs brought to Kuno National Park from Namibia. The Akhil Bhartiya Bishnoi Mahasabha also sent a letter to the Prime Minister to convey their protest. Following this, the Madhya Pradesh government said that chital (deer) from Rajasthan is not being brought to feed the cheetahs in Kuno.
There were reports of deer being brought from Rajasthan to Kuno National Park. Akhil Bharatiya Bishnoi Mahasangh president Devendra Bishnoi yesterday demanded that chitals are on the verge of extinction in Rajasthan and that this unscientific and senseless decision that should be reconsidered.
The Bishnoi community is dedicated to protecting forests and wildlife. As of 2020, there were 3,040 spotted deers (chital) in Rajasthan. Apart from Rajasthan, Bishnoi community members also protested against sending deer to Haryana. The protest was staged in front of the Mini Secretariat in Fatehabad. They had warned that they would go on an indefinite strike.
