KANNUR: Police have arrested three people, including Muslim League state secretary Abdul Rahman Kallayi, in the Mattanur Juma Masjid construction scam. Mattannur police arrested them after eight hours of questioning. After the arrest, all three were released on bail. Congress leader M.C Kunhammed and U. Mahroof were arrested along with Abdul Rahman Kallayi.

As per the complaint, there were irregularities in connection with the reconstruction of Mattanur Town Juma Masjid. The police registered a case on the complaint of MP Shamir, a member of the mosque committee. It was alleged that the accused had swindled crores from the Waqf Board in the name of the construction of the Mattanur Juma Masjid and the shopping complex next to it. The complaint was lodged against those who were in charge of the mosque committee from 2011 to 2018.
According to the complainant, the accused allegedly used the money provided for the renovation of the mosque for their own personal purposes by producing fake bills.
