NEW DELHI: As many as 247 PFI activists and leaders were arrested during the second round of the nationwide crackdown on the Popular Front of India. Police and Anti-Terrorism Squads conducted raids across states such as Assam, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
On September 22, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested 106 people in raids conducted in 15 states, including Kerala. Yesterday's raid was based on the clues received from them.
In Delhi, more than 30 people were taken into custody in a joint raid by central agencies and the Delhi Police on PFI centres in Nizamuddin and Shaheen Bagh areas. Popular front offices were locked and sealed. Rapid Action Force conducted a route march in the region. Raids were also conducted in Rohini, Jamia and Central Delhi areas.
The Karnataka Police has said that over 80 people have been taken into custody based on a tip-off that they were planning to cause communal riots and law and order problems. The raids took place in Bengaluru, Devanahalli, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Raichur, Hassan, Bellary, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Hoskote, Bagalkote and Koppal.
