MUMBAI: In a massive drug haul, the narcotics control bureau (DRI) seized 50 kg of mephedrone worth Rs 120 crore in the international market, from a godown in Mumbai. This is one of the biggest drug busts by the narcotics control bureau in recent times. The drugs were seized on the basis of secret information. Two people including a former pilot of Air India, were arrested in connection with the incident.
Vijin Varghese, a Malayali, was arrested in connection with the seizure of 198 kg of crystal methamphetamine and 9 kg of cocaine worth Rs 1476 crore in Mumbai. He used to smuggle large quantities of drugs under the guise of importing fruits. It is indicated that Thachambaramban Mansoor of Malappuram Kottakkal, Malappuram, partner of Vigin Varghese, owner of More Fresh Exports in South Africa, has been nabbed by the revenue intelligence.
It is reported that the drugs were brought to India to smuggle to other countries. A new company called More Fresh India Pvt Ltd was registered in Kochi last year for exports with Vigin as the managing director and his brother Jibin as director. The container stored in a refrigerated warehouse in Mumbai's Vashi, was seized while it was being transported in a truck on Friday night.
200 kg of heroin was seized from Iranian vessel off Kochi coast yesterday. Five Pakistani nationals and one Iranian were taken into custody.
