WASHINGTON: An American citizen who is accused in more than a dozen attacks against Indian women has been captured. The accused, Lathan Johnson, 37, is a resident of East Palo Alto in California. He has been slapped with a nonbailable offense and is now in jail for attacking fourteen Indian-origin women within a span of two months.

Lathan Johnson attacked women between the age of 50 to 73. He targeted Indian women with an eye on the gold jewelry that they wore. He broke the arms of the women and attacked their husbands to get at their gold ornaments.

In the US, Indian Hindus, especially women, use to wear traditional clothes and gold ornaments during Hindu festival days and on other special occasions.

The spokesperson of the Hindu-American Foundation said that hate crimes against Indians and Hinduphobia on social media platforms are on the rise. He said that attacks such as these must be charged under hate crimes.

Recently, a video surfaced in which a lady with American citizenship misbehaved with three Indian women and tried to manhandle them.
