NEW DELHI: The final picture of the Congress Presidential election has emerged after the time to withdraw the nomination ended today evening. It will be Mallikarjun Kharge against Shashi Tharoor in the final race. The Election Authority Chairman, Madhusudan Mistry announced both candidates in a press meeting. The candidates can now officially campaign for the election.
The election, through a secret ballot, will take place on 17th October. The votes will be counted on 19th October and the winner too will be announced on that day.
Those who are participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra will have special ballots to register their votes. Madhusudan Mistry said that 69 booths are arranged for voting, including the one at the AICC office and the one at the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Meanwhile, Madhusudan Mistry said that Shashi Tharoor has not given him any complaint regarding violations of election conduct against Congress leaders in Kerala. However, Tharoor has given a complaint against leaders of another state. He said that the complaint will be investigated.
Mistry made it clear that actions cannot be taken according to media reports.
Thiruvananthapuram MP, Shashi Tharoor, had said that election guidelines are violated. He expressed his displeasure when Congress leaders extended their support to Mallikarjun Kharge even before he resigned from his official position to contest the election.
