THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the protest against the construction of Vizhinjam port has entered the 54th day, it is recommended to recover the loss caused by the strike, from the Latin Archdiocese. Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited, the government's port construction company, has given a letter to the government requesting this. The company handed over the letter containing the recommendation to the ports department on Friday.
The construction of the Vizhinjam port, which has invested Rs 4000 crores, has been suspended due to the strike of a section and there is a daily loss of Rs 2 crores. A loss of Rs 106 crore is estimated in interests alone. The company is alleging that the Latin Archdiocese should take over the loss of the strike, which has not even a sign of persuasion despite the government and the police having intervened several times.
The strike is taking place at the port gate in violation of the high court orders. Therefore, the Latin Archdiocese must be given a notice regarding the recovery of the loss. The company’s letter stated that the high court's directive to recover the losses incurred in ordinary strikes from political parties is also applicable in Vizhinjam strike.
Meantime, the Latin Archdiocese responded against the recommendation that Vizhinjam Seaport Limited's action is a challenge to the coastal population. The government has also decided that there is no need for drastic measures in this regard. The government will not consider the proposal of Seaport Limited for the time being. The government's move is to resolve the issue through talks.
