SHIMOGA: Congress has questioned the condition of the road which was laid four months ago at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore in Shimoga district of Karnataka. The BJP government had constructed a 5.16 km road from Pujaridimba to Gavaturu in the district at a cost of Rs 4.41 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana scheme. This road has started to wear off.

The visuals also came out in which the locals were peeling off the roads with their hands. Following this, the Congress staged a protest on Saturday, alleging corruption in the road construction. Congress alleged that 80 per cent commission was taken for constructing this road.

The villagers alleged that the road has no double layered tar and said that the mud road used by the villagers was better than the newly constructed road. The villagers opined that the contractor who built the road should rebuild it soon so that the village students would benefit from this.
