THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has invited the Adani Group for a discussion after submitting the preliminary report of the loss calculation due to the Latin archdiocesan strike that obstructed the construction of the Vizhinjam port. Adani Ports CEO Rajesh Jha will hold talks with Ports Minister Ahmed Devarkovil on Thursday.
The main discussion will be how the project will be carried forward in the context of the strike. Gautam Adani instructed his officials to let the government decide the matter and not to interfere in the dispute with the Latin Archdiocese. The government will seek the possibility of consensus through court and discussion without creating discontent among the protesters.
The port department is of the opinion that there is a difference of opinion on Adani's losses. According to the agreement, the work of the port should have been completed in 2019, Minister Devarkovil said. The grievances filed by Adani and the government alleging breach of contract are under arbitration. Meanwhile, a recommendation was made to the government that Vizhinjam International Sea Port Limited (Whistle) should recover the damages from the Latin Archdiocese.
According to the report, the High Court's directive to collect the losses incurred during the strikes from the political parties is also applicable to the Vizhinjam strike. The Diocese is angered by this. The government is of the position that no drastic measures that make the issue even worse.
