KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday said that vehicles violating the law should not be seen on the roads from tomorrow. The court also directed that the permit of tourist buses violating the law should be suspended for three months. The Division Bench of the High Court clarified these matters while considering the suo moto case in the Vadakancherry accident.
The court pointed out that the bus that caused the accident had several illegal lights on it. "Multiple violations can be seen on the bus at a glance. This cannot be accepted. It is already stipulated that such things cannot be allowed. However, the culprits are proceeding by violating this. Such violations have the potential to cause danger on public roads. Installing so many lights may affect the driver's vision. Glare from the lights can cause difficulty for the driver. Vehicles have a specific colour code. Buses, including KSRTC, should follow colour codes," the division bench said.
"The fitness certificate of buses violating the law should be cancelled. The motor vehicle department and the police should strengthen night inspections. Police should assist MVD if need it. Uniform colour should be strictly enforced for tourist buses. Vehicles, including modified cars, should be seized. Such vehicles should be seized and produced before the magistrate. The lower court can decide on further action. Vehicles that violate the law should not even be allowed on school and college campuses," the court added.
The court also criticized the police regarding the lapses in vehicle inspection. The court also pointed out that the vloggers who promote such vehicles are also guilty. The court also directed that action should be taken against the principal and teachers who permitted students to travel in vehicles that violated the law.
