KOCHI: DYFI leaders who thrashed the security staff of Kozhikode Medical has received bail from the High Court on the condition that they must not enter the Medical College premises.

Five DYFI leaders including State Committee member, K Arun, received bail after being in remand custody since 6 September. The accused earlier bail pleas were rejected by the Kozhikode Principal Sessions Court.

The incident occurred on 31 August after the security staff of the Medical College blocked a couple who came to visit the Medical College Superintend. Following this, a group of 15 DYFI activists arrived at the spot and brutally beat up the security staff who were on duty.

Three security staff and a media person who tried to capture the attack on video got injured in the attack. A controversy erupted when the police showed a delay in capturing the culprits.

Following the uproar, the police checked the CCTV footage and arrested DYFI State Committee Member, K Arun, and some other local leaders under nonbailable offences. The police were unable to capture the first five accused. They had finally surrendered to the police.
