nayanthara-vignesh

CHENNAI: Soon after film star Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan announced that they have become parents to baby twins, Tamil Nadu Health Department announced a probe against the couple. Tamil Nadu Health Minister M Subramanian announced that the Directorate of Medical Services will conduct a probe to verify if the couple followed the surrogacy laws to become parents.

"As per law, a couple is deemed ‘eligible’ for surrogacy if they have been married for five years. However, Nayanthara and Vignesh Sivan have been married for only four months. Hence, we've sought an explanation from them," the minister said.

According to the Surrogacy Act, commercial surrogacy has been banned in India from January 25, 2022. Meanwhile, the law provides women between the ages of 21 and 36 the right to surrogate pregnancies with family approval. It will be investigated whether it has been followed.
