THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The illegal contract of renting a road space for parking to a private hotel here has been cancelled by Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The corporation revoked the permission on the grounds that the hotel owner had violated the agreement. The action is based on the public works department's report.
The Traffic Advisory Committee headed by Mayor Arya Rajendran decided to rent out a road to a newly started private hotel in the Devaswom Board building opposite the Ayurveda College on MG Road. The contract was for a rent of Rs 5,000 per month.
After the agreement, the hoteliers started stopping other vehicles from parking in this place. Complaints were raised that neither the Traffic Advisory Committee nor the corporation had the authority to enter into such an agreement. After the incident became controversial, Public Works Department Minister Mohammed Riyas sought a report from the Road Division Executive Engineer.
