KOTTAYAM: The police said that a dispute over his wife going to work led to a husband killing his wife and hanging himself in Areeparambu. The deceaed has been identified as Sunilkumar (52) and his wife Manjula (48), of Kalathuparambu in Ayyankunn, Areeparambu. Neighbours told the police that Sunil Kumar, who did not like Manjula going to work, frequently quarreled over this.

The complaint was that she was not looking after his elderly mother because of her work.

On Sunday around 7.30 pm, when the couple's son Devanand came home from playing football, he saw Manjula lying on the floor in the room next to the kitchen and Sunil hanging dead in another room. Manjula was taken to the hospital but died on the way.

10 years ago, Sunilkumar, who is a carpenter, moved from his native Malath to Areeparambu. Manjula was a bakery employee in Amayannur. Their son Devanand is an engineering student and daughter Akshara is a beautician in Changanassery. On the day of the incident, Sunil had a meal with neighbour Sasi. In between the meal, Sunil had said that this is his last supper. After that, Sunil brought his wife from the bakery. Following this, Sunil strangled his wife and killed himself, says police. Funeral of both was held at Manjula's home in Kummanam after post-mortem.
