NEW DELHI: India managed an easy victory against South Africa in the third ODI match, thanks to the mesmerizing performance by the bowlers. With this, the Indian team won the series 2-1 despite losing the first match.
Batting first, South Africa was bundled out for just 99 runs. Indian spinners, including Kuldeep Yadav, decided the course of the match. Only three players in the South African line-up, including Heinrich Klaasen, crossed the double figure. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets conceding only 18 runs in four overs. Washington Sundar, Mohammad Siraj and Shahbaz Ahmed took two wickets each.
Chasing a relatively small target of 100, India lost skipper Shikhar Dhawan (8) in the seventh over. Ishan Kishan, who came next, scored only 10 runs before he was dismissed by Imaad Fortuin. Although Shubman Gill (49) was dismissed a run short of a half-century, the Sanju Samson-Shreyas Iyer partnership that followed led India to a quick victory.
Brief scores: South Africa 99 all out in 27.1 overs (Heinrich Klassen 34, Janneman Malan 15; Kuldeep Yadav 4/18, Washington Sundar 2/15) lost to India (Shubman Gill 49, Shreyas Iyer 28 not out, Bjorn Fortuin 1/20, Lungi Ngidi) by seven wickets.
