It is a common belief that when education and development increase, there will be a reduction in superstition. However, some incidents in our state have proved it wrong. The latest incident is the gruesome human sacrifice that shocked everyone in Kerala.

Though it is hard to believe that human sacrifice has taken place in Kerala, which is known for its education and progress, the police have confirmed that it was a human sacrifice as part of a black magic ritual.

Mohammad Shafi had brought the women from Kadavanthara for a couple at Elanthoor, Bhagaval Singh, and his wife Laila. The trio Bhagaval Singh, Laila, and Mohammad Shafi is now arrested in connection with human sacrifice.

Mohammad Shafi had put up a Facebook post calling people to contact him for rituals that will bring prosperity. Seeing this Bhagaval Singh and his wife Laila contacted Shafi. He told the couple that the solution to their problem was a human sacrifice. He also charged a huge sum of money from the couple.

On 6 June, a resident of Kaladay, Rosly, was lured by Shafi and taken to Elanthoor. It is suspected that Bhagaval Singh, Laila, and Shafi gave the human sacrifice, together. After Shafi said that one more sacrifice is needed, Tamil Nadu native, Padma was also lured and sacrificed. Their bodies were buried near the house of Bhagaval Singh.

Those who have approached black magicians for prosperity have never achieved those things. Moreover, these people lose their peace of mind and money and live in the dark world of superstitions. Social reformers had fought against such superstitions. It was a result of such struggles that people broke out from crude customs.

However, nowadays those with education are falling for fake astrologers and making wasteful payments. The greed and desires of modern man have increased the number of people who commercialize spirituality and try to take advantage of it.

No one can do a ritual or black magic to help another person. If someone tries to convince you of that, then it is for money only. It is interesting to note that the number of those who want to be misled is more than those who mislead others. The political, social, and community leaders can work against such things. But they do not give much importance to such things.

People’s superstitions cannot be changed by courts or the police. It must begin from our hearts. Anyway, society must develop caution against incidents like these. It will ruin all the success and changes that we have gained as a society.
