KANNUR: The High Court has canceled the NOC of the College that was given approval by the Vice Chancellor of Kannur University without the knowledge of the Senate. The High Court has found that the VC has misused his authority to give permission to TKC Trust to start a college.

The court said that the action of the VC, to give approval to a college by conducting an inspection knowing well that the college does not have the basic qualifications, is wrong. The court also observed that the action was in violation of the rules of the University.

When the University stipulates five acres, the TKC Trust has only three acres with it. Of this, 2 acres is a paddy field. Even after knowing this, the VC went ahead and ordered an inspection without the permission of the Senate. The government gave administrative approval on the basis of the inspection report. This has been canceled by the court.

The High Court criticized the Vice Chancellor severely. It also ordered the review of the application of TKC Trust according to the stipulations of the university. The court said that it can be reviewed only during the next academic year.

When the lawyer appearing for the university pointed out that the inspection report was against the college, Justice Devan Ramachandran asked then why was the report accepted. Justice Devan Ramachandran passed the order while taking up the numerous pleas opposing the University’s move.
